Alison King who plays Carla Connor in Coronation Street gave birth to a baby daughter this morning, weighing 6lbs 7oz.
It is the first child for the actress and her partner Adam Huckett, a sound assistant on the soap, although he has admitted in the past to wanting at least five children.
Carla Connor first made her appearance on the Streets of Weatherfield back in 2006 with some fantastic story lines which are to continue on her return.
Ms. King is hoping to return to the programme later in the year after her maternity leave is over.
