The Coronation Street star, Antony Cotton who plays the camp Sean Tully, was attacked at Aintree racecourse on Friday.
A group of actors from the soap went to the track for Friday’s ‘Ladies Day’. Antony accompanied by Charlie Condou (Markus Dent) and Jenny McAlpine (Fiz) was heckled constantly by hecklers according to sources.
As the day came to a close and the party was about to leave, Antony was abused by a drunken racegoer, who than attempted to take a swing at him.
An onlooker said “Antony was being called names but was determined to enjoy the day. Then after he left his private box a drunken racegoer made a lunge at him.”
A Coronation Street spokesman said “There was no homophobic element to the name-calling.”
After being escorted out of the grounds Antony said “We had an amazing day” and will not be making a complaint about the incident.
