Eastenders had to shoot their latest scenes in Weymouth after producers were forced to scrap plans to shoot a series of special episodes in Spain.

It had been planned that the Mitchell family would take a summer holiday abroad as part of a dramatic new storyline, but the BBC bosses axed the idea due to cost cutting, and the scenes were instead shot in windy Dorset.

A source revealed that the storyline will see veteran actor Larry Lamb, in his role as Archie Mitchell, who is set to “blow the family apart.”

However, things did not run smoothly in Weymouth after actors threatened to stop filming and go home when a gang of abusive yobs appeared while they were filming on the beach.

A show insider said “The lads were screaming sexual slurs and abuse.  Some of the cast threatened to get on the first train back to London.  There are a lot of fans watching the filming, which is not a problem.  But this gang stunned everyone with their abuse.  They upset the cast.”
