Fred Elliott
John Savident who played butcher Fred Elliott in Coronation Street for twelve years, has revealed his disappointment on leaving the soap opera.
The 70-year-old actor, had given his bosses a years notice of his intentions to quit the show even though he would have been happier to continue if more flexibility were given to his working hours.
He expressed his wish to spend more time with his family to the producers of the show but instead saw his character killed off after suffering a heart attack while preparing for his wedding.
He also admitted that towards the end of his time in the ITV programme, Granada were becoming meaner with their money.
The bonus given to actors for working away from home was now only paid for the first two years and not five as it had been previously, and a loyalty payment has been reduced dramatically along with holiday pay. What Fred needs is a lovely relaxing cruise holiday to get away from it all.
