The veteran actor, Michael Byrne is to be playing the part of Gail Platt’s long-lost father in Coronation Street.
Byrne will play Ted Paige in the summer when it will be revealed that Audrey, Gail’s mother who is played by Sue Nicholls, dumped Ted after discovering she was pregnant with Gail when she was 18 years old.
The character will shock Gail and Audrey with his surprise visit to Weatherfield when he announces he is in fact gay.
An insider has said that, “Audrey wanted to settle down with someone so she could claim back son Stephen who she had when she was 16. But the man she fancied wasn’t interested so Audrey went for his best friend, Ted. When she discovered she was pregnant by Ted, she fled as she knew he would propose – and she couldn’t spend the rest of her life with him.”
Michael Byrne, the English actor is noted for his roles on film and television such as; The Eagle has landed, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Braveheart, Tomorrow Never Dies and The Sum of all Fears.
