Jake Dean, played by Kevin Sacre in the Hollyoaks soap, has quit the Channel 4 programme after six years.
Sacre is the oldest member of the cast and promised himself he would leave the show when he turned 30. He now plans to return to other projects and interests he enjoyed before joining the soap.
The actor said “I have been here since I was 24 and I turned 30 in March. I decided that once I turned 30 I’d go and explore other avenues. We have a lot of good actors on the show and it’s good to see them go on and do great things because people are always saying that ‘Hollyoaks’ actors are rubbish, which is so unfair and untrue.”
He added “I’d love to go and do something and people say ‘oh look that’s Kev, he’s doing well and he’s one of our lot.”
Bryan Kirkwood, the shows Producer said “Kevin has been one of the most recognisable faces of Hollyoaks for many years and I’m sorry to see him go. He has an amazing presence, both on and off screen, and I’m sure the future is bright for him.”
The character already has mental health issues which will be his downfall and will tie in with one of the soap’s ongoing storylines, which involves Warren and Louise.
The actor has now filmed his final scenes but will remain on screen this month.
