Harry Tomb, who played Janine’s elderly Jewish fiance David in Eastenders in December, died peacefully at his London home on Friday after losing his battle with cancer.
The 83-year-old actor, had appeared in numerous programmes including Casualty, The Bill, Heartbeat, Z Cars and The Avengers.
Mr Tomb moved to England in the 1950’s from Ireland and his career saw him on the stage in Theatre productions as well as television and film roles.
He appeared in Eastenders when Dr Legg spotted an article in a magazine of an engagement and recognised Janine as the bride-to-be Judith Bernstein. By the time Ricky and Billy had arrived at the synagogue, the ceremony was underway and they believed Janine to be truly happy, although shocked in the age difference.
All looked to be going well until Pat arrived and declared Janine to be a fraud in front of the entire congregation, Janine’s new husband collapsed and died of a heart attack shortly after Billy confessed all to David’s daughter, seeing Janine being once again thrown out onto the street.
