It has been reported that the actor/comedian Mike Reid, who played Frank Butcher in Eastenders, died with debts of £900,000.
Mike played his role as a second-hand car dealer in the soap for 18 years and died of a heart attack at his Spanish home last summer.
Apparently, once all Mr Reid’s assets had been valued and all his bill had been settled his estate was worth nothing. A friend supposedly said “Mike appears on paper to have died potless, which is incredible to me. He never seemed to be short of money but I don’t know what sort of debts he had. It seems his financial affairs in the UK were disorganised and took a lot of sorting out.”
Mr Reid had supposedly turned down several offers to return to Eastenders as Frank Butcher but declined them. This week in Eastenders in ‘Frank Week’, which shows his funeral in the soap as well as the return of his son, Ricky Butcher and his daughter Diane.
Mike Reid died in Marbella on 29th July 2007, aged 67 from a suspected heart attack. Two weeks before he died, he had received a full medical examination and had been given a clean bill of health.
