Emmerdale actress, Roxanne Pallett, has revealed that she was once in an abusive relationship.
Roxanne plays Jo Sugden in the ITV soap, and the current storyline in which Jo is involved is domestic violence with her husband Andy, which reflects the events in her own life.
Ms. Pallett decided to speak out, and told the Sun “I understand the pain and isolation that Jo feels because I have been there myself. I am so passionate about this subject, I’ve decided to talk because of all the women out there who will read this.”
“I want to let them know they are not alone. I’ve been there and come out the other end, and I’ve been lucky enough to carry on with my life. But like Andy is doing to Jo, my ex manipulated me and got under my skin. He took every grain of confidence, isolating me from family and friends - it was the emotional manipulation that took longer to get over than the bruises.”
The actress kept her secret from her fellow cast members, and said “I kept it secret from everyone including Kelvin (Andy Sugden) because I didn’t want the the drama of the scenes diluted. It was very emotional filming them and Kelvin always gave me a big hug afterwards.”
